A Good News Day for This Artist

Although I have not been creating new art in the last couple of months, I have been sending images out to various competitions and exhibitions. Yesterday was a good news day for me.

First I was notified that two of the three pieces I had sent to the University of Oregon's 2014 Pacific Northwest Art Annual had been accepted. These paintings will hang at the the Adell McMillan Gallery, University of Oregon Erb Memorial Union during the month of May.

Yosemite Trickster, Aquamedia, 29" x 25" framed

Food Web, Watercolor, 22" x 29" framed
Shortly after getting the email regarding the acceptance of these paintings into the University of Oregon exhibit, I got a phone call from Issaquah, Washington from the co-chair of the Northwest Watercolor Society's International Exhibit asking me if I planned on attending the Awards Ceremony this coming Saturday. Although she could not tell me what award I will receive, I now know my painting has been given an award! This is a very big deal for me--an award in a large international show, juried by the excellent artist, Donna Zagotta.

Herons' Winter Dreams, Aquamedia, 37" x 29" framed
I am now working on a plan to get to Seattle-Tacoma for the ceremony. Mike and I will once again trade duties as we support our daughter Rachel and her family as she gets a stem cell transplant in Seattle. For those of you following Rachel's progress, she is doing well and the engraftment is getting near. To follow her journey in Seattle: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/rachelcarter.
